BYD Dolphin has reached a major global milestone, crossing 1 million units in cumulative sales worldwide. This achievement makes it the fastest electric hatchback in China to reach this figure and highlights the growing trust in BYD’s electric vehicle technology. The success is also strongly felt in Nepal, where the Dolphin has emerged as one of the most popular electric cars on the road.

In Nepal, the BYD Dolphin was launched in September 2023 by Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., the official distributor of BYD vehicles in the country. Since then, it has quickly become the best-selling hatchback in Nepal, not only among electric vehicles but across all types of powertrains. At a time when the hatchback segment was losing momentum, the Dolphin managed to revive customer interest by offering a strong mix of safety, modern features, and overall value.

More than 2,500 BYD Dolphin cars are now being driven in  Nepali road,  making it one of the most successful electric vehicles ever introduced in the local market within such a short period. Its popularity reflects a shift in how consumers view everyday mobility, with greater focus on safety, comfort, and efficiency.

Positioned as a safe and smart family car, the BYD Dolphin is built on BYD’s advanced e-Platform 3.0 and uses a high-strength body structure designed to offer better protection on Nepal’s varied road conditions. It is powered by BYD’s Blade Battery, which is globally known for its high safety standards, long life, and reliable performance.

The Dolphin offers a spacious and user-friendly cabin suited for modern family needs. Features such as a large rotating touchscreen, smart connectivity options, and generous interior space contribute to a comfortable and convenient driving experience. Advanced driver assistance features also help make daily travel safer and more relaxing, something that has been widely appreciated by Nepali users.

Before the Dolphin entered the market, Nepal’s hatchback segment was seeing a steady decline. The arrival of this model helped reverse that trend by bringing global-level electric vehicle technology at a price that appealed to a wide range of buyers. It attracted both first-time electric vehicle owners and families looking to upgrade to a more advanced and eco-friendly car, playing an important role in encouraging EV adoption across the country.

Commenting on the milestone, a representative from Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd. said that Nepal is proud to be part of the BYD Dolphin’s global success story. According to the company, the Dolphin has changed the way people look at hatchbacks by offering a balance of safety, smart technology, and environmental responsibility. Cimex also reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the EV ecosystem in Nepal through stronger after-sales support and continued investment in clean mobility solutions.

Looking ahead, BYD is already working on the next-generation Dolphin, which is currently undergoing testing in China. The upcoming model is expected to bring further improvements in design and driving performance, building on the strong foundation that has made the BYD Dolphin a trusted choice for families in Nepal and around the world.
